Kristian Smeds’ work for theatre is synonymous with artistic, intellectual, and political debate in Finland and abroad. Unsettling an easy equilibrium between national and larger European perspectives, his stagings destabilize notions of national identities, while provocatively reflecting on the power of theatre as the vehicle for their dissemination.
